What Responsibilities Do You Have When Hiring a Bail Bond Agent?

Stanley Simmons

Do you know that you do not have to pay your full bail amount to get out of jail? There is a different route you can take to accomplish the same goal, which is hiring a bail bond agent to pay your bail for you. Sounds good, right? It is an excellent choice for many reasons, but it is essential to know that you will have responsibilities if you use these services. Here are the main three things you should know.

1. You Are Responsible for Paying a Fee

The first responsibility is to pay the non-refundable fee to the bail bond agent. Using a bond agent provides a way out of jail without paying all the bail money, but it still requires paying some money. The money you must pay is a required fee, and all agents charge a cost for their services. You can expect to pay around 10% to 15% of the bail price for this fee, and you will not get it back. The fee is not a refundable fee under any circumstances. Once you pay it, the agent will begin working on your release, and paying this fee obligates you to other responsibilities.

2. You Are Responsible for Going to Court

One of the requirements you must follow is going to court for every scheduled hearing you have related to your current case. If you have other pending charges in place, you should also attend those. Missing a court appearance while bonded out of jail is never a good thing. Missing court results in further consequences and legal issues, so you must make sure you attend every hearing. If you are not sure when your hearings are, contact the court and ask. Your bail bond agent may also have this information, as will your criminal defense lawyer.

3. You Are Responsible for Following a List of Rules and Guidelines

Finally, you will receive a list of rules and guidelines from the bail bond agent and possibly from the court. You must follow every item listed on this document. Failing to do so will result in legal issues and consequences, including the potential to go back to jail.

As you can see, you are responsible for three main things when hiring a bail bond agent. If you are ready to follow these guidelines and get out of jail now, call a bail bond agent to start the process.
